location is good. away from the hustle and bustle on the town centre with a great view from the balcony. the staff and especially the manager were exremely helpful and welcoming. i would definately stay here again
Wonderful view from the restaurant and patio. Warm welcome by Manager Jude. Great Sri Lankan food - so tasty! Comfortable rooms with lounge area to share in each section of three rooms. Well furnished.
The stairs! But its a small hotel on a hill - thats just part of its attraction too.
Very friendly and service oriented staff specially the Manager Jude is a excellent host and provides very personalized service to each and every guest staying at the hotel. It is a small hotel but good location and the staff and service make you feel like million dollars.
Good choice of fruits and cooked items at buffet breakfast. Restaurant provides huge portions of standard Sri Lankan and Chinese style dishes at reasonable prices. Located 20 mins walk along the lake shore from the town centre albeit at top of a bit of a climb up the Sarankara Road. Friendly staff.
Bathrooms lacked ventilation and developed a somewhat musty smell.
I was traveling alone and first time in Kandy, I was so lucky to have this hotel. I was walking along the river and I was bitten by street dog .Hotel manager Jude and his wife took me to the hospital. I had quick treatment and injection. That cost was more than 300 usd. The hotel owner and Jude didnt even want me to pay for the hospital fee. They paid everything for me . They said, because I am their guest and they had to take care of me. Hotel staff and Jude even brought some soup and food for me at the hospital and they waited for me until my treatment finished. I am also working for service industry and I know what is good service. But what they did for me is not just good service, that was truely kindness from the bottom of their beautiful heart. My experience was beyond my expectation and I was so moved by thier real hospitality mind.
This 12 room hotel is well run, very clean and has a good location, being not far out of the centre of Kandy. It is very quiet and also offers nice lounge areas on each floor. Rooms only have queen size beds, so limiting from a point of view of room-sharing. However the rooms are a good size. I was fortunate to have one of (4 only) the Kandy lake- facing rooms with a nice view and elevation balcony but most of the rooms are located to the side of the building and dont have such nice views. The manger Mr Fernando was always most helpful and congenial and he manages this small hotel well. There was always a nice choice on the breakfast buffet with a daily srilankan option available and plenty of fresh fruit. Overall, this hotel is good value.
The road access to the main entrance of this hotel is a very bad road and not suitable for walking. Means you really have to take a tuk-tuk to get into Kandy. There is an upper entrance available which accesses a road with a much better surface and provides a much better walk into the town but the hotel closes the gate to this upper road at 900;pm so you always need to come home via the poor road if after this time at night. My only criticism of the hotel is that it would be nice to have some furniture on the room balcony, also some recliners on the roof top deck would be a nice addition. Wifi availability in-room would also be an added advantage as it is only available in the restaurant-roof deck area which is quite a distance up stairs from guest rooms.
Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. I arrived at hotel feeling unwell with food poisoning from somewhere in Colombo, needed to visit doctor in Kandy. Staff in Amanda Hills very helpful advising on hospital to go to, calling rickshaw, drinks and food when we returned, lovely people, would stay there again.
Amanda Hills location is excellent. Hotel staff is also very helpful particularly its manager Mr. Jude Fernando who always try to keep your stay as pleasant as possible and make you feel like you are living at home. If I will go back to Kandy again then I would prefer to stay at this hotel.
Great staff who cannot do enough for you Lovely breakfast Clean rooms Good value Only 10 mins walk to the lake although is up a hill.
They don't have much driver accomodation and do not give them a meal so if you have hired a Sri Lankan driver this isn't really the hotel for you. No pool
Excellent staff. Allowed extended stay witout charge.
breakfast. No variety
Jude, his wife, and staff were wonderful, helpful, and knowledgeable about their area, foods, and attractions. They coordinated travel arrangements for me to sight see. The hotel is walking distance to the Temple of Tooth and into the city. I highly recommend Amanda Hills to travelers visiting Kandy. I will be staying at Amanda Hills when I return to Sri Lanka again. When making your way to the hotel the first time, look for the largest tree on the lake and turn up the hill, don't stop until you can go no farther. You have arrived. The views are amazing and the bird calls are lovely to hear.
Breakfast start at 7:30. we check out at 6:30 & they gave us just tea, but price included breakfast...
The hotel was in a great location - high on a hill above Kandy Lake. There were great views from our balcony as well as the rooftop terrace. Lucky and the rest of the staff were very friendly and attentive. The breakfast was very good - and eggs were cooked to order. We also had dinner at the hotel and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Nice hotel - great value for your money. Lucky and his staff were very friendly and helpful.
The mountain road to the hotel but not much you can do about that !!
The poor service the rude manager
